I have a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. A geographer by training, I have spent the last six years working as a researcher for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, based in Stellenbosch. My academic research included a structural assessment of plantation forests-- in particular, I explored the use of multiple earth observation data sources as part of a data fusion exercise. I am employed as the Geo-Spatial Data manager, and will manage all geo-spatial aspects of BCP's work in Africa including the collection of spatially referenced biomass data using digital data collection devices. I am passionate about open source software and the use of earth observation data for the monitoring and managing of natural resources. I also have an interest in data analysis and business analytics including the development of Big Data applications.
