Marc Baker is a director of Ecological Initiatives Ltd, a Tanzanian company focused on environmental consultancy and forest conservation. Marc has worked in conservation and ecotourism since 1998, starting his career as lead ornithologist for UNDP - GEF. This project conducted a range of biodiversity surveys aimed at improved forest management throughout Tanzania and Kenya from 1998 – 2000. Marc worked as an environmental consultant and wildlife specialist for Danida, Care International, the Wildlife Division of Tanzania and Nor-consult and has a broad understanding of a range of environmental practices, which include biodiversity assessments, management for sound ecological practice and the viability of ‘out of protected area’ tourism. Currently, Marc is working on developing community based carbon forest projects (www.carbontanzania.com) and continues to work on mitigation and planning for environmental impacts within the Lake Natron Ramsar site. Marc Lives in Arusha with his wife Claire and their two children, Niamh and Oscar.
