Tropical Forests and Green Growth: Between Production and Conservation

December 2 - December 2, 2014 Host Global Green Growth Institute, Deutshes Institut für Entwicklungspolitik Location Forests Pavilion Lima Peru

We are pleased to invite you to the discussion panel about "Tropical Forests and Green Growth: Between Production and Conservation", which will take place in Lima, Peru, on December 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Pabellón Bosques ("Voces por el Clima" venue, parallel to the COP). The event is organized jointly by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) y and the German Development Institute / Deutshes Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE).

This event brings together national decision-makers and global leaders in environmental policy to discuss the role of tropical forests within a Green Growth framework. How can countries solve tensions between national needs for growth and international commitments to reduce deforestation? How can differing domestic interests with regard to forest policy be resolved? What aspects of international cooperation and financing mechanisms have had positive impacts with regard to forest policy in developing countries, and what can be improved?

The high-level panel includes Mr. Gabriel Quijandría (Vice Minister of the Environment, Peru), Ms. Fabiola Muñoz (Director of the National Forest Service, Peru), Mr. Norbert Gorissen (Head of the International Climate Initiative, Federal Ministry of the Environment, Germany), Mr. Juan Chang (Coordinator, Climate Change and Sustainability, Interamerican Development Bank, Washington), and Mr. Manuel Rodríguez Becerra (Professor of the Universidad de los Andes and former Environment Minister, Colombia). The panel will be moderated by Ms. Mónica Ribadeneira (Forest Specialist, KfW Development Bank, Peru).

We look forward to seeing you in Lima. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
