Land Use Change due to Bioenergy

March 30 - April 1, 2009

The conference consists of two days of presentation and discussion on the following themes:
1) Direct Land Use Change (DLUC) - magnitude and methodologies for assessment; and
2) Indirect Land Use Change (ILUC) - drivers of  ILUC and mechanisms to manage ILUC;
The two days will be followed by an optional field excursion to an operating bioenergy facility in the area. Goals of the workshop include: share knowledge and increase understanding of  land use change resulting from expansion of bioenergy:  impacts on net GHG emissions and other environmental  services; approaches to evaluation of impacts; inclusion in GHG accounting; approaches to management  of  indirect land use change; and establish  teams to prepare working documents for a side event at COP-15.

Goals of the workshop will be to :

  •  share knowledge and increase understanding of  land use change resulting from expansion of bioenergy:  impacts on  net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental   services; approaches to evaluation of impacts; inclusion in GHG accounting; approaches to management  of  indirect land use change; and
  •  establish  teams to prepare working documents for a side event at COP-15 (Copenhagen).

At this time, the workshop organizers are soliciting expressions of interest and abstracts from  researchers in the field.
