Please join us for a webinar on Friday, September 25, 1:00-3:00 pm Eastern, to hear an update on the Forest Carbon Standards Committee. The webinar is designed both for members of the Committee and for others interested in the Committee’s work.
The Forest Carbon Standards Committee (FCSC) was created in 2008 to develop and maintain a consensus standard for the measurement, reporting, and verification of forest carbon emission reduction projects (e.g., offsets) under current and emerging greenhouse gas emission reduction programs in Canada and the United States.
The Forest Carbon Standard is being developed in accordance with procedures adopted by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited standards development organization, and procedures adopted by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), a Standards Council of Canada (SCC)-accredited standards development organization. ANSI and SCC are the national standards accreditation bodies for the United States and Canada, respectively. AF&PA is serving as the Secretariat for the Committee. More information about the Committee and the process can be found at www.forestcarbonstandards.org.
The FCSC formed four Technical Task Committees (TCs) – baselines/additionality, permanence/leakage, quantification, and sustainability – to develop elements of the standard. The Technical TCs have had numerous conference calls since March and are close to developing draft recommendations on the standard, which will be reviewed and refined by an Integration Task Committee and then by the full Committee.
The purpose of the webinar is to provide an update of the work of the Technical TCs and highlight some recommendations and challenging issues. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
